Nikki Lam uses video to trace the multiplicity of identity and belonging. Exploring the limits and complexity in understanding ourselves, Lam draws parallels between our connection to people, place, memory and time.
Born in Hong Kong, Nikki Lam currently lives and works in Melbourne and has recently completed an Executive Master of Arts at the University of Melbourne. Solo exhibitions include Another Place, Seventh Gallery, 2014 (forthcoming); Two-Minute Affair(s), Gallery on Waymouth, Adelaide Fringe Festival, 2012; Between Land and Soul, White Street Project, 2012; and In-Transit, BUS Projects, 2011. Lam has exhibited in group shows locally and overseas including Over View Video Festival, Netherlands (touring), 2014; SafARI, DNA Projects, Sydney, 2014; Here and There, The Ferry Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand, 2014; One Hundred and Twenty Seconds, Artbox, Federation Square, Melbourne, 2013; Cities & Identities, Scoletta di San Giovanni Battista e del SS, Sacramento, Venice, Italy, 2013; ID/Identities, International ArtExpo, Istanbul, Turkey, 2012; Across The Borders, Palazzo Vaj, Prato, Italy, 2009; and Kodak Salon, Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, 2009. In 2008 Lam undertook a residency at Palazzo Vaj in Prato, Italy, and has been awarded prizes from Creative Australia and the Alliance Francaise. Lam is the Artistic Director for Channels Festival 2015, curator and founder of The Curious Other and is Visual Arts Editor of Peril.
